In the heart of Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda, something beautiful is growing — not just fruit trees, but futures.
Springboard Connectivity, in collaboration with New Talent for the Best Future, is helping cultivate a space where young people — many of them orphans who’ve experienced profound trauma — are being given the chance to heal, grow, and thrive. These are children and teens who, against all odds, still dream. And we believe in their dreams.
Nurturing with Tools, Trees, and Trust
Our work begins with connection — quite literally. We’ve provided a laptop and an unlimited monthly WiFi connection, a simple but transformative offering that opens doors to global knowledge, virtual learning programs, and future career opportunities.
We’ve also planted six trees — mostly fruit-bearing — symbolic of nourishment, both physical and emotional. These trees represent rootedness in a place that is often transient, and the hope of something lasting and life-giving.
And with the support of our partners at World Peace Tribe, we’re introducing Peace Sticks — a mindful movement practice that blends rhythm, connection, and joy. Peace Sticks is more than a game: it’s a paradigm shift. It transforms fear into flow, competition into collaboration, and separation into community. Children and teachers alike are discovering the power of cooperative play, mindfulness, and mutual support.
Why This Matters: Creating the Conditions for Flourishing
This project is grounded in a deep belief: that those who have suffered the most may carry the deepest capacity to give back — with empathy, humility, and strength.
These children aren’t being “rescued” — they’re being recognized. Their potential is vast, and with the right tools, environment, and encouragement, they can and will become extraordinary leaders, creators, and healers. Our vision includes:
- Water catchment systems to ensure access to clean water
- Gardens and green spaces for food, peace, and play
- Playgrounds to reclaim childhood joy
- Age-appropriate learning platforms and eventually, higher education pathways for older teens
And it’s not just the children who are growing. Refugee teachers — many of whom volunteer their time — are gaining access to new tools, lesson ideas, and a deeper well of support. With these resources, they can teach not just academics, but possibility.
A Global Vision from a Local Root
New Talent’s model is designed for replication. What we build in Nakivale is not an isolated intervention — it’s a prototype of what’s possible across refugee communities around the world. Their mission is clear: discover, nurture, and empower the talent within marginalized youth through education, sports, arts, and social connection.
As we deepen our work, our hope is to co-create a beautiful, safe, and stimulating space where every child — no matter where they were born or what they’ve faced — has the chance to flourish.
What You Can Do
This is a collective effort. Every donation helps us provide more laptops, more trees, more joyful learning experiences. Every share helps raise awareness. Every conversation plants a seed.
Because no child should be left behind — not in Nakivale, not anywhere. And together, we can bring them to the front of the line.
